Wilmington, California

Wilmington, California- courtesy of Buyer's Broker, specializing in Los Angeles County California Real Estate.Wilmington, California was one of the first towns established (1858) in Los Angeles County after California became a state.  In 1863, the California legislature made it lawful for the town (then) known as New San Pedro, to have its name changed to Wilmington, after Phineas Banning's birthplace of Wilmington, Delaware.

The historic Drum Barracks (pictured here) is the only Civil War-era U.S. Army building still standing in Southern California. The 16-room structure once stood among 19 similar buildings on 60 acres of land, General Phineas Banning and B.D. Wilson donated to the U.S. Army.
